I said fourteen years to the day. I've had people politely point out that I can't count, and they're right, and I want to put it on the record rather than quietly edit the post.
Thomas Aldridge broadcast on the 14th of June 2012. The signal came back on the 3rd of July 2026. That is fourteen years and nineteen days.
Nineteen days is not a rounding error. If you build a thing to fire on an anniversary, it fires on the anniversary. So either he didn't build it to fire on an anniversary — in which case what was it waiting for — or something held it.
I've been going round in circles on this for a fortnight. Here's where I've got to, and I don't like it.
He didn't set a date. He set a condition. And the condition was met on the 3rd of July, and I have no idea what the condition was, and the only way I'm going to find out is to go back up to the light and look at the thing itself rather than listening to it from a mile away.
I'll post when I'm back.

The spiral remains.
